Plot: Don't be Afraid of the Dark

The black fog that killed five people is no more, but questions remain unanswered. The connections between the five victims lead one to believe that this is not an ending but just a beginning. In this next chapter, the characters will be faced with greater challenges, more deadly foes and answers that may leave each of them fearing the whispers in the dark.
  • This is basically a quest to continue the investigations into the deaths and possible motivations / origin of who or what may have called the Black Fog to kill them.

The Dead

  • Victim #1: John Roberts: College Student. Didn't see what came for him. One minute it was just incredibly black around him and the next he was gone. #1 was a residential college student (not from the area) who seemingly has no connection to anyone -BUT- the place he was coming home from was owned by #2.
  • Victim #2: Greg Bevel: Landlord. Coming home from his grandson's game. He got out of the car as the fog surrounded him. The lights went out of the street light, the air grew cold and everything went quiet. He felt a pain on his ankle, then on his hand and then a great wind seemed to swirl around him before he fell to the ground and everything went blurry. #2 was a crooked as an Appalachian Highway. He was gouging people for rent all the time - had low-end properties all over town and was sort of an 'up and comer' in property development. He lived fairly modestly (to keep his wealth hidden) but if he were to sell everything off he was worth millions.
  • Victim #3: Millica Meadows: Secretary. Out walking her dog when everything went her pet started to freak out and bark at...nothing. Then the whole street corner went black except for a small pool of light under a street lamp, the air grew so cold she could almost see her breath before she noticed the eyes.#3, the Secretary, worked in the City Development Commission. She was a data processor who handled all of their GIS (Geographic Information Systems) work concerning the plotting out of subway lines, Sewer lines, etc. No enemies, no drama. Not even a parking ticket.'
  • Victim #4: Evan Hudson: Engineer. No clothing. Only a towel near by when found. Towel shows only an image of a hot shower and that he was not alone. There was someone -else- with him in the shower who also used the towel. Difficult to tell which image is the dead man and which isn't. The room went black, the shower's heat was stolen away and a fierce wind -sucked- Evan out of the shower onto the floor. He was dead in seconds.#4 was secretly gay. Though married and had a house, wife, 2.5 kids out in the 'burbs, he also maintained a small apartment in the city. And wouldn't ya know it - the apartment was owned by #2. He was a civic engineer and was one of the consulting engineers on a project to create a new metro line under the city.'
  • Victim #5: Tonya Maynard: Antique's Dealer: Walking home from the parking garage she uses near her apartment. The attack happened when she was in the stairwell. Similar circumstances with the sudden loss of light, cold temperature and strong breeze but this time there was something different. This time she did not 'just' fall dead. She spoke words. She drove them back, for a time, at least. She -killed- some of the...somethings. In the end there was a pain in her back. Not the sting felt by the others but something sharp and long; a blade. She was stabbed. When she turned she recognized the face though it was blurry in this vision and her last word was simply, "You!" #5 ran an antique store which is now closed. The store is small, open only by appointment and seemingly successful enough to keep the bills paid. No one of her business neighbors can ever remember talking to her for any length of time but she seemed 'nice but preoccupied'. #5 was also known to be at the shop at all hours and was rumored to live up on the second floor. She had no website, no 'modern' advertising.
  • A name was discovered for the Fog; an ancient and dread name that even the Wraith fear.

Specifics

  • Five people have been 'murdered'.
  • Though the police are still waiting dental recognition from the piles of bones - several eye witness have described seeing the victim walking on the street, consumed by the fog and only the bones and clothes remain.
  • The victims are seemingly random, having no commonality to them.
  • The 'fog' moves about the city, never appearing in the same place twice.

Rumors

  • Vampire: It is not impossible for a Lasombra's shadows to be mistaken for a 'black fog' and they are behind this - but to what end?
  • Mage: Black Fog? Well - that's one way of hiding one's effects from the mundanes - but why strip the bones?
  • Garou: Every place where skeletons have been found after the fog hit reeks of death energy and, oddly enough, a combination of Wyld and Wyrm.
