I love the look of this basement door. Since it's below the level of the street, it suggests a level of secrecy about it. However, if it is such a "below the common notice" bit of architecture, why decorate it with the nice stone accents around the frame and on either side?

Few buildings are built like this any more so it suggests that the building itself is old.

And old buildings are FULL of stories; sometimes secret stories.
