Wyck's Hollow

The opening beyond the Red Door leads to a set of stairs that goes down for what feels like 20 feet. The walls are plastered brick that have been painted more than a few times. No light is visible .

The stairs end at a pair of large, wooden, double-doors. They are not locked but the hinges squeak with the sound of abandoned use and rust.

Above the door, written in chalk is the phrase, "Speak Friend and Enter".

Maglock and Kumo discovered an old wooden crate full of tools. Among the contents were:

  1. Iron Crowbar
    1. Scratched into the surface of the bar was "He who pulleth the bar from the box, he shall be King". However, the word 'King' was scratched through and in its place was written, shakily, "D E A _ " The last letter wasn't finished.
  2. Flashlight
    1. The flashlight was very old school but worked.
  3. Road Flare
    1. Was pocketed by Kumo

Beyond the double doors, a set of winding stairs, wrought-iron and decorative by the looks of them, descend for another forty feet - a light source visible at the bottom. The walls around the stairs are rough-hewn stone.

  1. Maglock used the crowbar to loosen one of the step plates. This caused the whole structure to become moderately less stable.

The light source is a burning torch set into a hand-forged wall sconce. Beyond it lies a tunnel that curves around to the right with a slightly downward grade. Though not true stairs, it eventually connects to a chamber.

The party found several items which suggested that "Future Wyck" might have lived there at one time.

  1. A painting of Zoe on the wall.
  2. Several sketchbooks in the small shelves next to the tunnel (numbering on the spine started in the 40's).

The party met Flicker Emberheart of the Tall-Flame Clan, a flame sprite which lived on a candle in the room. She looked at Wyck and said that he shouldn't be there. That "HE" wouldn't like it. She urged the party to flea once the upstairs door was heard to open.

  1. Zoe left a gift of matches for "Flick" before they left.

The chamber that is above the 'nook' is something of a laboratory with windows that look out over a huge, lush forest.
After another revolution or two and the tunnel opens into a smithy of sorts. The forge sits in the 'center' of the room with shelves and tables set in multiple places around the area. What's more impressive for this chamber, however, is the large 'window' in the corner beside the forge that looks out onto what appears to be an underground waterfall. The waterfall chamber glows with a faint blue-white light reminiscent of moon light and will have the occasional cool breeze wafting in.

  1. Kumo discovered a hammer which disturbed her.

The tunnel empties out onto a small stone ledge which brushes against a deep pool created by the waterfall. The waters churn and rumble under the falls but by the time the waves reach the stone of the ledge they have calmed to a still, mirror-like reflection of the unknown light source above. Crystal fragments line the wall here and there - each one channeling light from elsewhere like fiber-optic cables.

  1. A boat of shaped bones was anchored on the shore which they used to escape.
  2. The beach was covered by small shards of blue crystal (presumably fallen from the ceiling and washed ashore).
    1. The shards are roughly palm-sized and about as thick as two-fingers.
  3. They saw a monstrous creature stick its head out of the window from the forge chamber and the six-legged, croco-dragon chased after them down the stairs.
  4.

Warehouse

Moonlite Motel

The Moonlight Motel & Lounge is an establishment of questionable quality but of infinite reliability. Located on the outskirts of town near the highway, the motel has cheap rooms but they're almost always kept cleaned and orderly. The roof doesn't leak, the showers are warm and the beds are better than nothing.

Location; Chrome

@desc here=%R%TThe interior of the club is a testament to the industrial nightclubs found in nearly every major city. Bare concrete floors are accentuated by brick walls, neon lights and chrome and black leather. The club is a long rectangle with the the short wall on the left-hand side of the entrance and the long to the right. As you walk in, a long bar stretches along the right wall with bathrooms immediately to your left. Upon further investigation into the space, the wall opposite the entrance is dotted with several small booths and the dance floor between the bar and the booths are littered with small tables for patrons to sit and enjoy themselves. Still further in you see that the wall opposite the bathrooms has been constructed as a small, semi-elevated stage and a space has been set aside in front of it for dancing. Speakers and computer-controlled lighting are hidden throughout the layout so as to be a background feature. %R%R%T The theme of the club is a bit simple, at first. The entrance to the club is unassuming yet as soon as you walk in, you walk through a tunnel of lighted tiles that shift in colored light to match the tones of the music being played. The concrete floor has been painted a glossy black to reflect the lighting above. The ceiling , has been painted a flat black to give the whole space a 'bottomless' look - as though you were walking on a sheet of black glass. The bare brick of the walls is accented by a wash of colored light and is set off by the textured concrete of the front of the bar. As one remains within the club for any length of time, the walls seem to stretch out and make the room appear wider than it may be in reality.

Wyck: Apartment

Wyck's apartment is a total mishmash of found objects, curb-scores, yard sale treasure and hand-me-downs. No two pieces of furniture match and everything has its own random color scheme.

Location: Common Grounds

The Common Grounds is a combination of Bookstore and Coffee House. The setting suggests a mixture of 'come and hang out' as well as 'get your supplies here'. It's sort of a 'Cheers' location where most people who show up with any regularity are going to run into each other and, hopefully, meet new people.

The front of the shop is where people can socialize and relax while they drink their beverage of choice. The back, up on the small riser, is where the books and merchandise is kept. For some, the back of the shop is an area where people generally don't go - they're in and out with their coffee to go. Others, however, would spend hours curled up scanning through the books or picking up bits of this or that.

The books start on your right before you even step up onto the riser. These are the 'hot sellers' that would grab people's attention as they get their drinks. Once you step up onto the riser, it's only a small step but it's more of a mental transition from one part of the shop to the other.

The pentagonal table in the back is a great place to plan, plot and read. The long, library table is more for those who want to either study or sort through the books they've found and decide on what they want to buy. Right behind the Pentagonal table and in a corner set between two sets of shelves is a stone bust upon a marble column. Next to it is a book shelf that's been set upon a door to approximate a secret door. Once you take a good look at the shelves it's easy to see the door knob nestled among the books; an inventive way to hide a service door.

The back section of the bookstore is covered with paperback and 'real' books. Shelves are stuffed to busting with them as the owner has gone to every old bookstore in California, it would seem, and bought them out.

In an age where most people have some form of electronic text / book device like a Kindle, analog bookstores are rare. They are able to stay in business mostly due to people's reluctance to give up everything from the old world.

Aside from books, the shop carries a wide array of occult merchandise ranging from herbal teas, candles of various type and color, all manner of jewelry, blank journals with large, golden pentacles upon the cover, etc.

The front of the coffee house has a mixture of furniture in varying degrees of comfort and style.

The great big, blue couch is awesome for flopping and reading.

The Pimp Purple couch is a favorite of the ladies who want to spread out or catch up on their best friend's news.

A black cat named simply 'cat' has claimed the bookstore / coffee house as his own. The humans have yet to realize the change in ownership.

No one's really sure if its a male or a female - it likes to maintain its privacy and, like any other cat, doesn't give secrets away for free. There's no reason to ensure that the cat doesn't wander off - that would require it caring about the outside world. Within the Grounds, it is lord.

Staff

Ana is one of the two women who the owner has hired to help him run the Coffee house during the morning rush. Ana is a local to the town and is very friendly with the customers. She's knows all the latest news, has heard all the good gossip and is willing and able to tell anyone who wants to listen.

Tasha, however, don't give a damn. She doesn't give a damn about you, your coffee, your pastries or how many marsh mellows in your hot chocolate. She is, however, an old friend of the owners - one he met when he was passing through Atlanta. When she ended up out in town he set her up with a place and a job. She's grateful for the help but is SO not a morning person.

The 'Widdershins' is a signature late that is served at the grounds makes that has three shots of espresso and a bit of mocha to sweeten it.

Widdershins is a popular choice in the morning for those people who sprawl out to start their day.
